Gizmodo reports the company has opted to alter its pay structure with little warning for thousands of contractors on its platform. Some of those contractors are now furious at what they expect will be smaller paychecks from here on out. Launched in 2010, Rev offers customers transcriptions at the bargain-basement price of $1 per minute of audio. One whistleblower claims a little less than half of that buck goes to the contractor, while about 50 to 55 cents goes to Rev. But Rev announced Wednesday that its job pricing model would change—with a new minimum of 30 cents per minute.

A renowned Russian historian was found early Saturday, drunk and carrying two severed human arms in his backpack. Newser reports 63-year-old Prof. Oleg Sokolov has now been officially accused of murder. Police rescued Sokolov from St. Petersburg's Moika river, into which he had fallen while allegedly attempting to dispose of the remains. Authorities found more body parts downriver and at Sokolov's apartment. Ultimately the body was identified as his 24-year-old student and collaborator Anastasia Yeshchenko, who had been living with him. Sokolov claims Yeshchenko attacked him in a jealous rage before he killed her. Her family disputes that account.
